I’ve taught A-Level English Literature for six years, mainly working with students who know their texts well but struggle to turn ideas into strong essays. I spend a lot of time on close reading, paragraph structure and using context without forcing it into every point. Shakespeare is probably my favourite area to teach, although I’m equally happy discussing modern drama and poetry.

Hi! I’m an A-Level English Literature tutor and a bit of a poetry obsessive. I’ve been tutoring for four years and usually work with students on unseen poetry, comparison questions and getting essays finished within the time limit. I like lessons to involve plenty of discussion before we start writing. Often the best interpretations come from simply talking through a passage properly first.

I have nine years of experience teaching A-Level English Literature, including several years as a classroom English teacher. My particular interests are Shakespeare, nineteenth-century fiction and literary criticism. Lessons normally combine detailed textual analysis with timed writing and past-paper work. I’m quite precise when marking essays and will always explain why a paragraph is or isn’t reaching the higher bands.

English was the subject I genuinely looked forward to at school, so tutoring it never really feels repetitive. I’ve worked with A-Level students for five years and particularly enjoy teaching plays because there’s so much to discuss beyond the obvious quotations. I’m also big on essay planning. If a student has ten good ideas but can’t organise them under exam pressure, that’s usually where we start.

I’m especially interested in dystopian fiction and modern poetry, but I’ve taught a fairly wide range of set texts. My sessions are relaxed but focused.
